Gigawatt partnered with RAW Charging and Hickorys Smokehouse (Lincoln) to deliver the enabling electrical infrastructure and connection coordination required to support a new, high-capacity EV charging site. Working through a structured programme, we managed interfaces across stakeholders and trades to support commissioning readiness and a smooth transition through to handover.

Scope of Work

Electrical systems delivery: HV/LV enabling works required to support the site’s load requirements, including design coordination and on-site delivery management.

EVCP installation: Installation of 3× 22 kW AC EVCP units supported by a 69 kVA three‑phase supply, including associated switchgear, cabling, and make‑good works.

Grid connection coordination: Interface management with network stakeholders to progress the connection approach, align responsibilities, and maintain programme sequencing.

Civil + electrical interface: Sequencing and coordination to keep civils and electrical activities aligned, reducing rework and maintaining safe working practices.

Testing, commissioning and handover: Commissioning readiness support, documentation collation, and handover alignment.

Key Features

Turnkey-style coordination: One coordinated route from connection strategy through to installed assets and energisation readiness.

Scalable infrastructure: Robust electrical backbone designed to support operational requirements and future expansion (subject to design allowances and connection capacity planning).

Programme control: Works managed through structured sequencing and proactive interface coordination to reduce critical-path risk.

Safety and compliance: Delivery aligned to applicable electrical standards, site requirements, and safe systems of work.

Outcomes

Delivered the enabling power infrastructure and connection readiness required to support RAW Charging’s site operations, managed delivery to a defined programme through careful sequencing of civils and electrical activities, and supported commissioning readiness and a smooth handover into operational use.

Charger Specifications

22 kW AC charging: Ideal for destination and dwell-time locations, providing reliable fast AC charging for a broad range of EVs (vehicle acceptance-dependent).

Three‑phase supply: Designed around a 69 kVA three‑phase incoming supply to support the installed chargepoints and associated site infrastructure.

Smart charging + load management ready: Suitable for intelligent control and dynamic load management to help balance site demand (where enabled/configured).

Safety & protection: Installation incorporates appropriate isolators, protective devices, earthing/bonding, and compliance with relevant standards to support safe day-to-day operation.

Cabling & containment: Robust power cabling and containment routed to suit the site layout, with make‑good works completed to leave a clean, finished environment.

Commissioning & handover: Testing/commissioning support and handover-ready documentation to enable smooth operational sign‑off.

Civil Engineering Works

Trenching and Excavation
Preparing the site by digging precise trenches to accommodate power and data cabling required for EV charging infrastructure.

Ducting Installation
Laying durable ducts within the trenches to protect and manage electrical and communication cables efficiently.

Concrete Foundations
Constructing robust concrete bases to securely support EV chargers and associated equipment.

Reinstatement
Restoring disturbed surfaces, such as tarmac, paving, or landscaping, to their original condition once installations are complete.

Bay Painting
Marking and painting designated EV charging bays to ensure clear visibility, compliance, and user convenience.

Implimentation

Groundworks

Pre-excavation testing, trenching, and foundation preparation were carried out, ensuring a secure base for all installations.

Infrastructure

Placement of feeder pillars, power units, and floodlights, alongside precise ducting and cable routing.

Electrical Installation

Installation and connection of chargers and testing to ensure compliance with operational standards.

Final Touches

Redesign of car park bays, application of clear markings, and installation of protective bollards and signage.
