Overview
Gigawatt Industries partnered with PoGo Charge to transform the car park at Mid Kent Shopping Centre into a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) charging hub. As the principal contractor, we successfully delivered a turnkey solution that utilised both our civil and electrical engineering expertise. This project involved installing eight ultra-rapid PoGo Touch charging points supported by a Schneider Electric feeder pillar and a robust cabling and ducting network, all designed to ensure operational efficiency and reliability.

Scope of Work
Charger Installation:
Installation of four eight x 200kW PoGo Touch ultra-rapid charging points, each with advanced user-friendly features.
Infrastructure Upgrades:
Integration of floodlighting for safety, a split barrier for improved accessibility, and directional signage for clear navigation.
Electrical Systems:
Installation of a Schneider Electric feeder pillar and routing of high-capacity power cables within industry-standard ducting.
Civil Engineering:
Excavation, trenching, and construction of concrete bases for chargers and associated infrastructure.
Project Management:
Full responsibility for site security, health and safety compliance, and welfare facilities for on-site workers.

10x Bollard Protection Barriers: Protecting chargers and users from vehicle collisions.
7m Split Barrier: Replacing the existing barrier to improve site accessibility and flow.

Charger Specifications
Ultra-Fast Charging Power (100kW-150kW): Quickly recharge electric vehicles with a high-power output, reducing wait times and maximising efficiency.
Intuitive 8″ Touchscreen Display: Enhance the user experience with a bright, responsive interface and courtesy lighting for seamless operation.
Reliable Modular Technology for Maximum Uptime: Ensures continuous charging with multiple power modules, preventing downtime even if one module fails.
Durable & Smart Connector Design: Features a unique gun locking mechanism and cable floating system to minimise wear and extend charger lifespan.
Convenient Payment & Dual Charging: Accepts contactless and RFID payments with an integrated terminal and supports simultaneous charging for two vehicles at 75kW each.


Electrical Infrastructure
Incoming DNO Metering: Accurate energy monitoring with 1600/5A CTs wired to a COP5 metering box.
Earth Leakage Protection: A 4P MTZ2 12 H1 air circuit breaker with Micrologic 7.0X for enhanced safety.
Surge Protection: Type 1 & 2 surge protection to safeguard equipment from power surges.
Climate Control: Anti-condensation heaters and IP54 filters to maintain optimal internal conditions.
Auxiliary Power: Integrated circuits for external lighting and auxiliary site systems.
The Schneider Electric 1600A feeder pillar was installed to form the backbone of the site’s power distribution, supporting the high-capacity EV charging infrastructure.

Implimentation
Groundworks
Pre-excavation testing, trenching, and foundation preparation were carried out, ensuring a secure base for all installations.
Infrastructure
Placement of feeder pillars, power units, and floodlights, alongside precise ducting and cable routing.
Electrical Installation
Installation and connection of chargers and testing to ensure compliance with operational standards.
Final Touches
Redesign of car park bays, application of clear markings, and installation of protective bollards and signage.
