Spend five minutes with Emma CJ and two things become obvious very quickly: she moves fast, and she cares deeply.

She brings the kind of energy that makes people raise their standards, the kind that turns “that’ll do” into “let’s do this properly.”

Emma joins Gigawatt as our new Development Director, and honestly, we couldn’t be more excited.

From weather forecasts to the future of EV infrastructure

Emma’s story starts somewhere surprisingly fitting for someone now helping shape the future of energy: the weather.

At university, she studied climatology and meteorology, originally planning to become a weather presenter. But the pull towards real-world impact proved stronger, and her career quickly moved into the energy sector.

From writing energy efficiency policy at Ofgem, to implementing it in industry, to contractor-side delivery roles at the sharp end of infrastructure projects, Emma built a career grounded in both strategy and execution.

For the last 11 years, she’s specialised in electrical connections. For the last 8, she’s been immersed in the world of EV charging infrastructure.

And that depth of experience shows.

“Installing chargers isn’t the hard part…”

One of the things we love about Emma is how clearly she talks about the reality of this industry.

Because installing chargers? That’s often the easy bit.

Behind every “simple” EV installation sits a world of grid constraints, DNO processes, site-specific challenges, and hundreds of small decisions that ultimately determine whether a project runs smoothly, or becomes painful for everyone involved.

Emma’s vision is simple: make electrical connections feel easy for clients, even when the complexity behind the scenes is anything but.

That means combining brilliant people, strong processes, and smart AI-powered ways of working to deliver projects better, faster, and with less friction.

What brought Emma to Gigawatt?

Emma saw the potential immediately.

A strong brand. A team that genuinely cares about doing right by clients. A business built to move quickly, without compromising on quality.

But culture mattered too.

By the end of day one, she knew the values, ambition, and energy of the team aligned with her own.

And yes, Gigawatt’s use of AI and automation definitely helped. Emma’s excited by the opportunity to move faster and work smarter, while still protecting the quality, health & safety standards, and relationships that matter most.

What Emma’s focused on now

Right now, Emma’s priority is as practical as it is important: building scalable, end-to-end processes that take projects smoothly from enquiry through to energisation.

It’s about creating consistency, clarity, and momentum across the entire delivery journey, and bringing the whole team along with it.

Beyond that, her focus is on building partnerships, opening new conversations, and helping bring exciting projects into the business that grow into long-term relationships.

And if you really want to see Emma light up? Mention battery energy storage.

She’s especially passionate about the role it can play in supporting EV charging infrastructure and unlocking the grid constraints that hold great projects back.

Outside of work: marathons, strongwoman training, cheerleading… and a dog mascot costume

Emma doesn’t really do half-speed.

She takes on endurance events every other year, marathons, ultramarathons, strongwoman training, and somehow always seems to raise the bar again.

At one point, she even ran a marathon dressed in a full dog mascot costume.

(We’re still trying to understand the logistics of that.)

Right now, she’s also a cheerleader, lifts weights, and is teaching herself to do a handstand, despite describing herself as “borderline terrified of being upside down.”

The common thread through all of it? Stamina. Grit. Commitment. The willingness to fully throw yourself into something and see it through.

Whether that’s on a job site or inside a mascot head.

The Emma effect

Emma brings deep technical expertise, customer-first thinking, and a genuine builder’s mindset, someone who wants to understand the detail, improve the system, and make things work better for everyone involved.

She’s passionate, persistent, and fiercely loyal. And she thrives in teams where people are empowered, energised, and united behind a shared goal.

So if you haven’t met Emma yet, you will soon.

And trust us, you’ll know when you have.

Welcome to Gigawatt, Emma. We’re lucky to have you, and we’re excited for what comes next.
