Gigawatt Industries partnered with Pod to deliver a sustainable EV charging solution at Sherwood Hospital, supporting the NHS’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact. By installing 12 twin 7kW chargers, capable of simultaneously charging 24 vehicles, we have enhanced the hospital’s facilities, providing a reliable and convenient charging solution for visitors and staff.

Scope of Work

Charger Installation
12 Twin Pod Point Advanced dual-output chargers delivering reliable, fast charging.

Concrete Foundations 
Reinforced bases for chargers and feeder pillars to ensure long-term stability.
Cabling and Ducting 
Over 345m of SWA cabling and 190m of 110mm conduit, ensuring robust connectivity.
Two Feeder Pillar
Each fitted with 100A MCCB switch fuses to ensure safe and efficient power distribution.
Project Management
Full responsibility for site security, health and safety compliance, and welfare facilities for on-site workers.
Green-Marked EV Bays
Clear markings and signage to reserve spaces exclusively for electric vehicle users.

EV Distribution Board: Housed in Feeder Pillar 1, featuring Type 2 surge protection and PEN fault detection to ensure compliance with the latest safety standards.

 

Comprehensive Cabling: High-quality SWA cables ensure stable and efficient power delivery to all charging units.
 

Safety Features: Robust surge protection and fault detection enhance reliability and safety for users and the site

Cabling Used: Over 345m of SWA Cabling and 190m of 110mm Conduit, ensuring Robust Connectivity

Civil Engineering Works

Trenching and Excavation
Preparing the site by digging precise trenches to accommodate power and data cabling required for EV charging infrastructure.

Ducting Installation
Laying durable ducts within the trenches to protect and manage electrical and communication cables efficiently.

Concrete Foundations
Constructing robust concrete bases to securely support EV chargers and associated equipment.

Reinstatement
Restoring disturbed surfaces, such as tarmac, paving, or landscaping, to their original condition once installations are complete.

Bay Painting
Marking and painting designated EV charging bays to ensure clear visibility, compliance, and user convenience.

Implimentation

Groundworks

Pre-excavation testing, trenching, and foundation preparation were carried out, ensuring a secure base for all installations.

Infrastructure 

Placement of feeder pillars, power units, and floodlights, alongside precise ducting and cable routing.

Electrical Installation

Installation and connection of chargers and testing to ensure compliance with operational standards.

Final Touches

Redesign of car park bays, application of clear markings, and installation of protective bollards and signage.
